DS5: Stage 3 Plan

This is the DS5 Stage 3 Plan as distilled from the presentations and discussion at the Sorrento meeting. Unless stated otherwise all deliverables are due by the end of stage 3 and ready for discussion and review at the stage 4 meeting in Strasbourg.

Stage 3 Task List

Description of Tasks (+ contact person for each task)

1. Registry metadata ontology (NormanGray)

• Create an ontology of registry metadata
• Identify use cases for this ontology, problems to be solved

2. Ontology for VO access control (NormanGray)

• Refactor ontology started in Stage02
• Integrate SPARQL reasoner for VO access control

3. VOEvent/STC Ontologies (ElizabethAuden)

• Finish VOEvent ontology (and STC)
• Use the ontology to filter VOEvent RSS feeds from SuaveCat
• Extend work to customized CEA application and AstroGrid workflow

4. Registry query tool (BriceGassmann)

• Follow-up of previous work
• Use UCD1+
• Explore use of standard query methods, use of other registries
• Demo at IAU, Prague

5. Ontology of object types (AlexandreRichard)

• Include all SIMBAD object types
• Refine some concepts
• Identify links to other knowledge bases
• Implement first use case

6. Study registry contents (SebastienDerriere)

• Study keywords used to describe resources
• Link with the ontology of object types
• Suggest methods for intelligent resource discovery

7. Object Names recognition (Soizick Lesteven)

• Automatically identify object names in the literature

8. Keywords in Literature (AndreaPreiteMartinez)

• Study semantics of keywords in literature
• Explore articles to find expressions corresponding to
  • Ontology concepts
  • Thesaurus entries

9. Keyword mapping (BrunoRino)

• Implement standard mapping rules
• Use unit conversion (collaboration with CDS)
• Test and packaging of a prototype
• Provide recipes for hard to get values
