Progress
ACR (
AstroGrid Client Runtime) release. Once the
AstroGrid workbench has been installed, the user can execute scripts in a variety of common languages (perl, python etc.) which can themselves run any suitable command-line or UI service (e.g. resource search, analysis tool, Aladin...). Also see this
Tutorial.
The current release of the
AstroGrid Workbench Workflow Builder offers a wide range of resources.

Requirements
Taken from material prepared for
Nic's ADASS talk
IMF of massive stars
- Stellar catalogues are large, as are models; e.g.
- CMFGen typically 5E+8 spectral data points per population parameter set for O-stars
- VO provides model generation, selective/smoothed/clustered visualisation (e.g. to steer AstroNeural) assesment of goodness-of-fit without excessive movement/downloads of massive data sets.
- Need to search multi-wavelength archives (radio to X-ray)
- Images, data cubes and spectra
- Resource broker, liaise with data providers for efficient cross-matching of massive catalogues, apply more sophisticated registration and cross-ID tools e.g. SpecFiind
Galaxy clustering
- Very large sky areas (tens degrees) at multiple resolution scales
- Complex parameter space (redshift as well as location)
- Multi-wavelength data, phenomena of interest have different structures in different regimes
- Variety of multi-dimensional pattern-recognition methods e.g. VisIVO
- Generate models for comparison
- Facilitiate integrating and driving tools
Infrastructure implications
- AstroGrid Client Runtime (ACR) and PLASTIC
- Access to local tools and services integrated into all VO resources
- Independent of their native languages, platforms
- Scripted in any of several common languages (python, perl, etc.).
- Exchange of data between packages via MySpace/VOStore
- e.g. model generation v. cross-matched observational SEDs, assessment of results using statistical package, visualisation.
- Workflow building and editing
- Daisy-chain multiple steps
- User defines conditions for e.g.
- Data selection
- Tweaking iterative refinement of models
- Asynchronous
- Including suspend points to wait for human steering
- Interactive and automated use of spectral tools (SpecView, VOSpec, 3D...)
- DSA to help data providers interact with AstroScope for efficient data discovery
- Registry
- Use of data models in selecting data to feed to tools
- VOTechBroker needed to allocate
- Computational power
- Bulk virtual storage (VOStore)
- Single sign-on
- Resource allocation
- Security
- System protection
- Restricted data
- Consortia
- International collaborations/distributed data and resources
- Direct movement of data between VOStores
